Junk cars usually sell for under $500 at salvage auction. The IRS rule for that range is straightforward: deduct the fair market value up to $500, no Form 1098-C required. Keep your initial pickup receipt and claim it on Schedule A when you itemize. If your junk car somehow sells for more, we send Form 1098-C with the actual gross sale price — your deduction matches that.

How the pickup works

2. Describe the vehicle: year, make, model, condition, and where it's parked.
3. We schedule a free tow, usually within 1–3 business days.
4. The driver loads the car and hands you a receipt at the curb.
5. Cancel your registration and insurance once the car is gone.

Do I need a title for a junk car donation?
